New Publication: Sizing Up the Garment Industry

How many garment brands would need to change their behaviour in order to reach a ‘critical mass’ leading to widespread improvement in respect for human rights and the environment? And how should governance and regulatory efforts be designed to help achieve that critical mass?

Our first paper, Sizing up the Garment Industry: Large Brands, Supply Chain Labour Market Share, and Lessons for Governance Design models the garment labour market share of the world’s largest brands, and finds that targeting a small number of large brands – a strategy many policymakers and civil society actors have long relied on – is likely not enough to generate systemic change in the garment industry.
